| Q. What does biometrics mean? Biometrics is the use of science and technology to authenticate a person's identity (establishing an individual) by way of their true physiological or behavioral features. In this case Biometric locks can also be known as "fingerprint locks." Q. Why is a biometric lock more secure than other forms of security locks? Biometrics uses fingerprints of an individual, which is entirely unique for that individual. A biometric or fingerprint can't be forgotten, stolen, or copied in an easy fashion, unlike our keys we all use now. Q. How does the lock work ? The fingerprint is optically scanned through a lense inside the lock. Then the image is focused onto a small chip within the components of the lock. The chip then converts the fingerprinted image into a digital file that can be stored and saved for future use. Q. How well does the lock function ? The lock and the fingerprint sensor is very accurate and precise. Our test results show if the finger is placed properly and not moving around while being scanned then the results are 1 in a million that will test false. It's almost obsolete! Q. How many fingerprints can you store at one time ? You can scan and store up to 100 fingerprints in each available lock. Q. How long does it normally take to scan and store a fingerprint in the locks ? The total process takes less than 5 seconds from initial scan to stored fingerprint. Q. Can I delete the stored fingerprints? Yes, stored fingerprints can easily be deleted using a pin code. It takes a few seconds to complete this process. Q. Do I need the original fingerprint to delete the stored fingerprint ? Yes, you will if you register and store the fingerprints in fast mode setup, BUT if you scan and store them in the slower set up mode then you can delete the assigned number of the person to delete the individuals fingerprint form the data base. Q. What size or kind of batteries does the lock take and how long will the batteries last ? The lock requires “AA” (double) alkaline batteries which last approximately 6 - 12 months depending on usage. Q. What happens if the batteries are run down ? No worries, the lock will indicate when the batteries are starting to run low. Also if you still forgot to replace the lock with new batteries then you can use a 9 volt battery on the outside of the lock to recharge it enough to gain access. Q. Is the lock made for right handed or left handed doors ? The locks can be used for either right handed or left handed doors. Q. What happens if someone tries to break into the lock ? If someone were to try and enter, by breaking the lock then an alarm would sound. Q. What happens if the computer inside breaks ? You can use a back up key to gain access, BUT we advise you to keep the key somewhere safe outside of the house with a relative or another safe place. Q. Can I register and store more than one fingerprint for each person ? Yes, actually we strongly advise that you store at least 2 different fingerprints for each individual. Then if you hurt your finger you have a backup so to speak. Q. Is it easy to install in your door ? Yes, it is really straight forward like any other door lock. You will need some tools, a screwdriver, drill, jigsaw and chisel. Just follow the easy and well explained directions as well as the template provided. BUT if in doubt you can always hire a professional to install it though it is really not NECESSARY! Q. Will it work well for young children ? Yes, although you will have to occasionally re-scan them and store a new fingerprint, BECAUSE they are rapidly growing and their fingerprints are somewhat changing. Q. How strong is the lock mechanism ? The lock has a sturdy well made latch lock. It also has a industrial strength deadbolt. Therefore, you have double the strength and power all in one amazing lock. Q. What is the warranty like ? The lock comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. If it can't be fixed then it will be replaced immediately. |
